All hail Macbeth

on
Monday 28 September 2015
I'd be lying if I said my job didn't come with some perks. Earlier this year, I got to attend the opening gala of the Edinburgh International Film Festival and yesterday I walked down the red carpet at the premiere of Macbeth at the Festival Theatre.

We ended with great seats in the middle of the dress circle just 6 rows behind Mr Michael Fassbender. Since I was sitting on the aisle, he walked right past me on his way to and from his seat. While no one seems to believe me, I'm pretty sure he caught my eye when he was on his way out at the end of the film.

I never studied Macbeth at school, so the story is one I'm not as familiar with as other people, even if I do know what it's all about. Aside from Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard giving incredible performances, the film was just beautifully shot on Skye and looked amazing.

The after party was held in the National Museum of Scotland which is one of my favourite buildings in Edinburgh. They had music, whisky cocktails and food which looked great, but wasn't vegan friendly so I was pretty starving when we left for some post  after party drinks in Paradise Palms.

The film opens in cinemas this Friday, so you definitely check it out if you get a chance.

Michael Ball Press Day

on
Sunday 27 September 2015
This week, Michael Ball was at the Edinburgh Playhouse for a press and groups event before he returns in Mack & Mabel in November.

He sang 'I Won't Send Roses' and chatted about the show before he did a Q&A and signing with our audience. After that, he went into two hours of press with journalists from The Herald, Sunday Mail, Sunday Post, Kingdom FM and STV Edinburgh among others coming along to interview him.

Most of the press won't run until nearer the time, but here's a couple of photos from the event.

What I Ate Wednesday

on
Wednesday 23 September 2015
So I started What I Ate Wednesday at the start of the month, but then I got a bit sick and stopped taking photos of my food for a couple of weeks. The plan is to try and do it from now on, so hopefully it won't be another month until I post something again.

I started today with my usual half litre of water and lemon, and then I had my favourite breakfast. I'm trying to increase my protein intake at the moment, so I added some vegan protein powder to soya yoghurt and topped it with banana, strawberries, agave syrup and oats.

Since there's still a few days until I get paid, I batch made lots of food on Sunday to last me through the week.  Lunch was spelt pasta topped with vegan mince bolognese, and I added some nutritional yeast on top because it's a really good source of B12.

For dinner, I had chilli made with vegan mince, carrots, onion, kidney beans and peppers. I made some rice too and found these gluten free corn chips I found in Real Foods in Edinburgh.

I guess that was my day. I also had some tangerines and a couple of Oreos as a snack, and I'm probably going to have some fruit tonight because it's pretty much all that's left in my house.

What I Ate Wednesday

on
Wednesday 2 September 2015
Since the Fringe is finally over in Edinburgh, I decided it's time to get my eating habits back on track. Last month pretty much consisted of vodka, chips and roughly 4 hours sleep a night, so I thought I would attempt What I Ate Wednesday from now on as a way to make me think a bit more about eating healthier.

So here's what I ate today....

I started the day like most days with half a litre of water and lemon as soon as I got up

Then I had Alpro plain yoghurt with coconut topped with strawberries, oats, seeds and a banana. I also tried the super orange Savse smoothie for the first time which was delicious.

I had a pretty standard lunch today to use up some of the food in my fridge, so I had a salad and humous sandwich, fruit and crisps.

I do try to be as healthy as possible, but there's always room for an afternoon snack of some chocolate. So I had about a third of the bar which was left over from the weekend.

And dinner time tonight was a vegan sausage and bean stew with sliced spring greens.

So that's what I ate today. I guess I'll be back with more food updates next Wednesday!
